Traditional Braces in Dulwich Hill

Smiling teenagersFor more than 20 years, the experienced dentists at Wardell Dental Clinic have provided orthodontics. Traditional braces are a tried-and-true solution to achieving a more aligned smile. They give reliable outcomes and are a cost-effective option to straightening your teeth.

Adults and teens alike can have traditional metal braces. They’re suitable for moderate to severe oral health concerns. Virtually anyone is a candidate for traditional braces. If you require a form of treatment before starting on your orthodontics such as an extraction or restoration, we’ll be happy to provide that service first.

How do Traditional Braces Work?

Conventional orthodontics use a series of fixed brackets (usually made of hypoallergenic metal) and wires, attached to teeth at strategic points. The arch wires place just enough pressure against your teeth that they gradually shift into alignment with the curve of the appliance.

In some cases, a series of rubber bands are used to move teeth in specific directions. They can also be attached between the upper and lower arches, bringing them into alignment with one another. A variety of band colours are available, making them a favourite feature for our younger patients.

Effective and Affordable Braces

Traditional braces are typically the go-to method for cases involving moderate to severe tooth misalignment. If you have significantly challenging rotation, crowding or gaps that need to be addressed, conventional orthodontics are ideal. They work efficiently and are the most affordable choice among the types of braces that we offer.

Keeping Your Braces Clean

Brushing and flossing around your fixed appliances takes a bit of practice. Investing in the right tools can make your job easier and more efficient. An electric toothbrush, special orthodontic flossers or a water flosser are ideal to have on hand. Pay particular attention to the areas between your braces and gums, where plaque buildup tends to get overlooked.
